FAQ

How do you enter Ready Stance on the PoE2 Duelist?
After some Duelist skills, keep holding the button to ready your blades. Ready Stance turns the basic slash into a deadly AoE slash, and Sand Scour is another Ready Stance attack.
How do you get Sand Stance in PoE2?
In the official demo, stunning enemies with Sand Scour from Ready Stance enters Sand Stance. The Bringer of Blades build also used Combat Frenzy Frenzy Charges plus Sand Scour to enter Sand Stance while clearing.
How do you enter Blood Stance?
Dual wield swords to parry, then follow with Bloodied Blade. Blood Stance default attack creates a blood wave that makes enemies bleed.
Does Rending Dash break Ready Stance?
No. Jonathan Rogers showed Rending Dash slicing through monsters while you stay in Ready Stance so you can reposition.
What does Sand Stance do to Cyclone?
Cyclone from Sand Stance spews sand disks at enemies left and right, which GGG highlighted for AoE clear.

What are Ready Stance, Sand Stance, and Blood Stance in PoE2?

The PoE2 Duelist uses three combat stances that change how your sword attacks behave. Ready Stance is held after certain skills; Sand Stance comes from stunning with Sand Scour; Blood Stance comes from following a parry with Bloodied Blade while dual wielding. Jonathan Rogers showed all three in the official Duelist deep dive at the Grand Arena ruins.

How do you enter Ready Stance?

After using some Duelist skills, you can keep holding the skill button to ready your blades for the next strike. In Ready Stance, a basic sword slash becomes a deadly area-of-effect slash instead of the normal single-target swing. Ready Stance can also be upgraded: Sand Scour is another attack you perform from Ready Stance.

Warcries such as Intimidate can be used while ready without breaking Ready Stance. Intimidate delivers an insult that intimidates the foe and causes your next attack to knock them off balance. Rending Dash also works while ready: you slice through monsters but stay in Ready Stance, so you can reposition for the next strike.

How do you enter Sand Stance and Blood Stance?

Sand Scour is used from Ready Stance. If Sand Scour stuns enemies, you enter Sand Stance. From Sand Stance, your default attack sends out a sand disk.

Blood Stance needs dual wield swords. Unlike other weapon types, dual wielding swords gives you the ability to parry attacks. Follow up with Bloodied Blade to enter Blood Stance. From Blood Stance, default attack creates a deadly blood wave that causes enemies to bleed.

Mark Roberts’ Bringer of Blades build enters Sand Stance in another way during clearing: Combat Frenzy generates Frenzy Charges, then Sand Scour enters Sand Stance without relying on a stun. That path is build-specific; the base rule from Jonathan’s demo is still stun with Sand Scour from Ready Stance.

What do stances change on Perforate, Cyclone, and Blade Plunge?

Perforate is a triple stab whose third strike sends out drills that bleed enemies. From Ready Stance, Perforate skips straight to the drills. From Sand Stance, Perforate sends mini sand disks from every enemy it hits, which Jonathan noted as strong for large packs. From Blood Stance, Perforate produces mini blood novas.

Cyclone still lets you spin as before, but stances modify it. Cyclone from Sand Stance spews sand disks left and right for AoE clear. Cyclone counts as a storm and can pick up other ground effects; cycloning through blood pools from buried blades adds blood to Cyclone. See the Duelist Cyclone guide for the cyclone and ground-effect loop shown in the demo.

Blade Plunge sends blades into the ground to explode. Blood and Sand stances empower buried blades when you plunge: Sand creates continuous sandstorms around each blade; Blood creates blood pools around each blade that Cyclone can use.

Earthrend and Ready Stance interact too: Ready Stance with Earthrend creates a wall of buried blades instead of one blade. Charged Slash from Ready Stance becomes a spin that sends lightning projectiles; hitting buried blades with Charged Slash turns them into mini Tesla coils. That combo is covered on Earthrend and buried blades.

Stance comparison (from the official demo)

Stance How you enter (shown) Default attack Perforate Cyclone Blade Plunge (on buried blades)
Ready Stance Hold after certain Duelist skills AoE slash instead of normal slash Skips to the drill strike (Not shown as a separate Cyclone mode) Sand/Blood plunge modifiers apply when you are in those stances, not Ready alone
Sand Stance Stun with Sand Scour from Ready Stance; or Frenzy Charges + Sand Scour in the Bringer of Blades demo Sends out a sand disk Mini sand disks from each enemy hit Spews sand disks while spinning Continuous sandstorms around blades
Blood Stance Parry, then Bloodied Blade while dual wielding Deadly blood wave; enemies bleed Mini blood novas Can add blood via blood pools on blades Blood pools around each blade

World Cutter, shown later in the same segment, can be further enhanced with Blood Stance or Sand Stance like many other Duelist abilities.
